Today's YDG is an often-overlooked Wham song that got a decent amount of airplay, the great "Edge of Heaven." This was Wham's FINAL single, and subsequently the last time Ridgely would be able to ride the coattails of Our George. This was truly the "edge of heaven" for that marginal talent/freeloader.
Songwise, I actually think this is one of the best-constructed Wham songs of all time. Horns, guitar solo, great vocals by Geo... not bad at all.
On the video -- another black and white one, looks great, George doing the swinging claps (as is custom), and best of all, at around 3:08, the famous Geo/Andrew arm-cross, an enduring symbol of 80's pop history! finally, wait until the poignant end, where George shakes Andy's hand and a simple "goodbye" appears on the screen. Symbolizing the beginning of the phenomenon known as GEORGE MICHAEL.

Good Lord! It is indeed a great song. After watching the video, I am left with the overwhelming sense of what a complete loser Andrew Ridgely is. What a douchebag. George is carrying the entire load here! I mean, what does he even do? Greg, you are so apt in calling him a freeloader. You almost can't wait to get to the end of the video because you know Geo will soon be rid of him.
Speaking of ends, you forget about the public's infatuation with George's butt back then. All of the Wham! and early solo videos have those ass shaking shots. I guess it's pretty nice, but it only adds to his gay mystique. All of this history of Geo's we're relearning through YDG just puts songs like Freedom 90 into better perspective:
"But when you shake your ass,
They notice fast,
And some mistakes were built to last"
What an emancipation Freedom 90 was for Geo. Thanks for a great post, Greg, and for being the heart and soul of what YDG is all about. Your contributions are incalculable.
I realized how so very "behind" I am with YDG! Sorry folks! Wow, I've never seen this video, great song. Here I thought I've gotten to the "bottom" of every Geo video, "butt" wouldn't you know, there's always a gem waiting in the "rear". Sorry folks, it's been a long week, up every day at the "crack" of dawn. I'm here every Wednesday folks!!
Dont worry Jen, I did slip this one in late in the day, "through the back door..."
Apparently the Edge of Heaven is the waistline of Geo's pants.
