It's time to deck the halls and hang your stockings with care for this post. I hope this is Kosher (never realized how funny that phrase could be when talking of posting a Christmas Carol), but I wanted to dabble into George's Yule Tide Carols/philanthropic side with Band Aid's "Do they know it's Christmas?"
To raise money for the starving citizens of Africa, 80s icons from around the globe collaborated on one of the most outrageous Christmas songs of all time. Listen to this line up: Bono, Sting, Boy George, Phil Collins (on drums of course), Bananarama, Simon LeBon, and of course our beloved George! Leave it to George to shine under pressure among this crowd with his solo in the second verse and cameos throughout the rest of the video. His attire is stellar, his voice heaven-sent, and his message positive - what more could a fan ask for?
Enjoy the video! On a more personal note, this video brings me back to a time of Pop Up Video on VH1 where my cousins and I would compete on Christmas Eve to see who could name the most 80s icons in the video when the chorus starts. Take a gander and see how many you can get!

I even found a Band Aid performance at the Live Aid concert in London in 1985 - take a look at George's bright yellow shirt sporting that great 5 o'clock shadow!

WOW! A few immediate thoughts: first and foremost, what a fantastic song, so much better than that pathetic we are the world. Second, you see all the amazing stars in this video?? Staggering. But of all the stars, noone outshines Our George. His look, classic 80's Geo with the flowing mane of hair...his voice, perfect. I only wish he has more lines instead of letting the horribly nasely Simon LeBon sing-horrible!
A third thought: while George is the undisputed highlight of this video, I cant comment without referencing the GREAT HALL AND OATES! One of the few Americans deemed great enough to cross the atlantic by Geldof. Priceless!!!
God, I forgot how great this song is. Bob Geldof has it over Quincy Jones any day! And Geo is he best -- the H&O cameo is a special treat. You have two of the great white soul singers of all time singing on the same song.
John, you are swinging for the fences, my friend. And you are scoring with this crowd of old weirdos.
BTW -- I would like some additions to the lists I started on the front page about the chateau.
