Jesus To A Child

So, here it is, my premiere YDG post. I thought I'd bring it down a bit, we've had a lot of the "For The Feet" from George. But now, we go "For The Heart".

We've got the 1995 single off the Older album. Now, I have to admit, I always thought this song was rather, um, sexy. Only to make me slightly conflicted putting on a song with "Jesus" in it as "make out" music. Don't judge me! Ok, anyway....

What you may not know about "Jesus To A Child," according to Wikipedia, is that the song is a tribute to George's friend and lover Anselmo Feleppa whom he met in Rio de Janeiro in 1991. Feleppa died two years later from an AIDS-related brain hemorrhage. Heartbroken, George was unable to write for the next 18 months, paralyzed by grief. Yet, he wrote "Jesus To A Child" in little more than an hour, indicating that the time was right to move on with his life.

I now invite you to sit back, put your phone on "send calls" and let the song just wash over you.

First and foremost, let me say that the George fans that post to this blog are of the highest order. The knowledge, not only of the songs but the context and history of the songs, and what makes George, George, is truly stunning.

Jen's inaugural post, illustrates this fact. This song, and elegy to Anselmo, remains a staple of Geo's live show and i agree aims at the heart. But I agree that it is sexy as well. In fact, I may have to adopt it as part of my "Cleveland Park Chateau" ipod playlist, which is my standard soundtrack for late- night encounters at my place...

I was wondering when we were going to get a mention of "The Chateau" ipod mix. Thank God GM has finally made it onto that thing! The poor unsuspecting girls who were brought back to your place for another playing of Sinatra or Avalon by Brian Ferrry. Of wait, Greg you would not be cool enough to play Avalon.

Jen, your post of JTAC (just trying to keep up with the internet abrevs)is brilliant. I knew this song was deep, but I guess just not how deep. Thanks for all the context. George sure has loved and lost. And knows the real face of AIDS. This is one of my favorite "For the Hearts" to be sure. I remember listening to this on while riding on a train once and just mentally stopping in my tracks. Not unlike the affect that Desperado had on Elaine's b
